The House of Seven Gables, known more properly as the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion is the oldest mansion in the United States. The original core of the house was built in 1668, with each new owner adding on, and in some cases, removing sections.
Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel, The House of Seven Gables is believed to be based on the Turner-Ingersoll mansion, at least in part, though the author denied that the house in the book ever existed.
