Pilgrim Woman Preparing Pumpkins - The History Trekker Shoppe at History and Haunts

Pilgrim Woman Preparing Pumpkin For Cooking

What could be more traditional than pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving? How about fresh caught eel? The first harvest feast at Plymouth, the one we all remember didn't have pumpkin pie. They didn't have sweets of any sort as they lacked one basic ingredient. Sugar. They did have fresh caught eel though, as well as cod, clams and venison. Still, one can imagine the excitement at the first pie baked in the early Plymouth settlement.

Fine art print of a pilgrim woman at Plimoth Plantation. Surprisingly decked out in bright colors, looking at the carved pumpkin and wishing for sugar.
