The Minuteman Statue on Lexington Green

There is perhaps no other symbol more iconic of the American Revolution than the statue of Captain John Parker, leader of the Lexington Militia at the skirmish on Lexington Green. Standing just a few yards from where the shot heard around the world was fired, the sculpture is immediately identifiable with that day.

In reality, the militia had no intentions of fighting, merely to stand up to the British forces to show their objection to what most saw as an unwarranted aggression. Nobody knows who fired the fateful shot, but the result was a staggering loss for the colonials, which led to fury across the countryside, itself leading to a chain of events which led to to the loss of Boston by the British.
